Rains And Flood – And Remote Control Boats

The rain just keeps coming. Seems like there’s no relief from all that water as the rivers and creeks overflow. At least for RC hobbyists all that flooding provides excellent opportunities to play with remote control boats.

With so much water to play on (or under), many boating opportunities come to mind.

One thought is that since the rains, and storms, aren’t mild and peaceful right now why not adjust your playtime to the aggressive models.

Set the sails on a couple of three-masted schooners. Dress one up as a pirate ship to plunder and pillage the royal vessel. Come along side for broadside cannon fire to disable one ship or the other. Rig lines for at-sea boarding, and sword fighting.

Find out how a destroyer floats through a hurricane.

I remember a trip back from the North Atlantic through a hurricane. That was in February or March one year. No roller coaster ride ever compared to what that destroyer survived as we traveled the swells. We went up one side of a swell, bow straight toward the sky. And right down the other side pointing straight toward the bottom of the ocean.

I “knew” at one point, as I stood bridge watch, that destroyer was headed for a meeting with Davey Jones.

Assemble a fleet of navy remote control war boats.

Send the gunboats on patrol missions along the coastal waters. Plan attacks on strategic enemy positions up the rivers.

Order a battleship to take its complement of destroyers on an attack mission to the enemy stronghold. Or to destroy the enemy fleet before it attacks your supply ships.

Task the Admiral with oversight of the fleet from the command aircraft carrier. Have him send the attack planes to strafe and bomb targets ashore. You’ll need destroyers and destroyer escorts to guard the carrier, and protect her from enemy planes, warships, and submarines.

Search for the enemy from beneath the waves with the navy’s nuclear submarine fleet.

Send the coast guard cutters, and patrol boats, to join the navy fleet. Let them protect our home waters from enemy attack, pirates, and drug smugglers.

Play the part of the smugglers, and race your high-speed boats across the seas toward the United States. See if you can avoid, and out maneuver, the navy and coast guard.

Slip the lines on your fishing trawler, and head for the north seas for the day’s catch. Brave the stormy seas, and hold your own world’s most dangerous catch fishing trip. Push the limits of what your boat can endure on the rough waters as you go about the routine business of hauling in tons of fish for the markets.

With all the different watercraft to choose from, you can stage any at-sea battle you can imagine.

All the water from the heavy rains is a hassle for the most part. But for the RC hobbyist it brings an element of joy.

What better time to play with your remote control boats?
